I went Tournamental

Warmachine

The Warmachine tourney I was talking about previously happened last night (I'm writing this on the 17th.... which is a sunday).  The tournament was Steamroller 2013 based (I believe, Aaron, can you answer that one for me?) using the Deathclock system. For those unfamiliar with it, the Deathclock system means each player has 45 minutes total for their game, like a chess match, for a total of 1.5 hours. During the players turn they make their moves under their own timer (counting down from their 45minutes). When they finish their turn, they hit the clock and it switches to their opponents clock. IF you run out of time on your clock, you automatically loose.
Cool system, I like it.
So how did it go?  Short story: I lost.

 Long story: The breakdown

My list as a Recap:
E-Nemo (+6)
Centurion (9)
Centurion (9)
Storm Guard (6)
Storm Caller Solos x 3 (3 @ 1 each)
The Black 13th (4)

Round 1: Vs. Khador. Win.  (1/0/0)

My Opponent was a really good guy (and my buddy for many years) named Chris. His list was:

Prime Sorcha
Beast-09
Devastator(?) (the one with the shield arms)
Man-o-war demolition corps
Widowmakers

This game was a lot closer than it looked. He moved forward and spread out, his widowmakers proceeding to take out my stormguard over two turns, as well as 2 of my stormsmiths (storm Joe and storm Andy. Can't really have 3 dudes names Smith....).  In the final turn of the match, Sorcha moved up between Beast-09 and the Devastator and threw down with Tempest which knocked down my Centurions who were running interference/blocking for ENemo. Alas Chris wasn't sure on the working of distance for his feat (which came up after the game when we were talking about the game), and he thought you needed unobstructed Line of Sight for the feat to affect enemies, believing that knocked down jacks still block LOS. As he didn't ask during the game I didn't think to ask my luck. Had he of used his eat, I would have lost next turn as ALL of my models barring my Black 13th were in her control area and would have done nothing in their turn, while he could have run rough-shod over my army.
Alas he didn't use his feat leaving Sorcha standing in the open between her Jacks. The Black 13th took her out with powerful shots and the game was done. Caster kill at 31m 27 seconds remaining (13m33seconds consumed) on my  Deathclock. Victory for ENemo.
Consequently that quick caster kill also won me the Fastest Caster Kill prize (YAY $10 Gift Certificate!). HUZZAH!

Round 2: Vs Protectorate. Loss (1/1/0)

My Opponent was the most awesome Mike. I'd never played him in a game before and he was a blast to play. the game was, I believe, the best, most hard-fought game I've ever played in My game, period! I Voted Mike for Sportmanship for the tourney (which he won!... in addition to placing second in the tourney.)
His List was:

Grand Scrutator Severius
Choir of Menoth
Exemplar Bastions
Exemplar Bastion Seneschal
The Avatar
The Blessing of Vengeance

The game was a very close one. He won via Caster Kill, though I had more scenario points (4 to his 3!). Super close fought game, with him having just the Avatar (No move, No left arm), Exemplar Bastion Seneschal (2 Boxes left) and Severius.... who had 1 damage box left.
I had a full strength Centurion, two storm smiths and Ryan from the Black 13th left.. And Nemo. Kinda.
It really came down to who was able to damage the other old man first (Severius and ENemo are both old men.... OLD MAN SLAP-FIGHT!). Alas for me, Mike got me with an epic roll and won. Good job man!

Round 3: Vs Cryx. Loss (1/2/0)

In the Third round, I went up against Richards much maligned Cryx List. MAN I HATE HIS LIST.

Skarre (stupidest Feat ever..... >.>)
Tarterous
Scarlock Thrall
NecroSurgeon with Thralls
Max Mechanithrall Unit
Max Banethrall unit
Banethrall Officer and Standard

Yeah this game. This game went poorly. First couple of turns went ok... then my dice just dropped off the map. for 2 turns straight I either hit and did no damage, or missed completely. I'm talking a total of 4 damage boxes caused over 2 turns (including one entire turn of wiffed rolls thanks to skarres junk feat. SERIOUSLY she has Strikers feat (+5 Armour)  AND IT ALSO GIVES +5 DAMAGE!!! WTF???!!!) Anyways, Richard played like a champ anyways and deserved his win. He officially wins our mini tourney as he and I have been playing our lists to prep for the tourney and he officially won the deciding game. so Good job mate.
Now to move up to 35points (and Trolls... FUDGE MONKIES!.. Damn you Richard....) in prep for the next tourney, which is tentatively set for February.

The tournament winner came into the (Beginners) tournament playing Legion of Everblight and had, I believe:
Thagrosh
A FRIKKIN ARCHANGEL BECAUSE WHAAAAAAAAAAA????
and some other stuff. I don't know I didn't play him.
By all accounts he's known as a pretty good player. So I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and NOT say that he came to the tourney to club baby seals and win him some prizes. Because that would be a petty bullshit move and then Aaron would be a dumbass for letting him into the tourney. Right Aaron?
RIGHT??
;)

Either way, Looking forward to the next tourney. Hopefully I can get my models painted. And I'm going to invest(igate) into some more units (long gunners anyone?) and Ecaine and see what I can wrassle out of that.

Good Games, had a lot of fun and an't wait for the next one.
BRING IT ON!

Hopefully I can convince Richard and Aaron to both write up their oversights on the tourney and get two other views for the same event. Lets see....

Until next time,
If your dice fail you, burn them at the stake in front of your other dice as a lesson in obedience.
Bean out~
