Questing for Heroes

Awesome Things

All is right in this world
Something Amazing has come up in this world. Something I hadn't thought would ever happen. Allow me to unveil this something, all in thanks to a company called GameZone:

Some of you (those who haven't read this blog from the beginning... tsk tsk!) will ask what this is and why it's important. Simply put, This game is what started me and my brother upon the road of miniature gaming. Our gateway drug, if you will. Once upon a time, a then small company met with Milton Bradley games (owners of Monopoly and about a billion other boardgames) and created a simple, fast paced RPG-styled board game that utilized simple plastic figures, styled after typical D&D archetypes (Barbarian, Dwarf, Elf, Wizard) that would combat their way through various locals set up by the evil Mentor/GM to save a fledgling Empire from destruction. But this starting company was not TSR (then makers of Dungeons and Dragons). No no! this company was a brilliant company that, having taken advantage of these typical fantasy Archetypes had created their own world and set this game within it. This little company was called Citadel games.

You may recognize that company as GAMES WORKSHOP.

Hulk smash puny prison!
A little while back I showed you all how to make some quick and easy foamcore buildings. Well, with another few hours (8 total, between the first session and second), here is what I have so far.

Note: These pictures were taken in the final turn of a recent Infinity game I played with a friend, Pan-Oceania vs. Ariadna.

Back once more!

Long time no see

And we're back! Took a little longer than I had expected but it is what it is: the results of moving houses (and land mass... from a teeny tiny little island to a significantly larger island... which is still considered part of the mainland?), Painting the new apartment (mostly.. still a few walls to do), getting settled in, eating delicious food (Omg I can get pizza delivery again!!!), and figuring out the area.
I now have access to 2 FLGStores (much better than the none within a 7 hour sojourn)! Technically I have 3 gaming stores within easy access of my new place... Though I wouldn't say GW, as a business, is friendly, though the employees are nice. I may, or may not (I did), have hired 2 of the 4 while I was still a Manager for GW, and of the remaining 2, One is a guy I worked with when he took over on of the stores I managed and is a pretty great dude. In between all of that I still found time to bring the samurai commission I've been working on up to about 80% completion, build, base coat and wash 10 marines for an upcoming army for 40k (The Vorpal Swords! look them up. they are pretty ace) AND throw down with a large pledge in the form of WARZONE!

That's right kiddies, I threw down at 'The Five" level with my bro AND managed to get a few others to throw in for their own as well, so expect a fairly large number of posts to come in June regarding that topic.

Ahem.

Awesome Things

As some of you have noted, I've posted a fair bit about the whole "GW sues over such and such IP infringement" hoo-hah over the last while. This is the last one for some time, I promise (at least until I come across something else as damned hilarious as the following).
Brought to my attention via a friend, ripped straight from the fuckyeahbritisholdschoolgaming tumbler.

 I admit.I laughed.
A LOT.

Warzone Resurrection

Wargaming

And we're back!
And what a lovely gift to come back to! It seems that the makers of Warzone: Resurrection (who's wickedly wonderful kickstarter is doing smashingly!) have found it in their hearts to release the beta of their game systems ruleset for FREE ONLINE via their facebook page. This makes bean a happy happy monkey.

Thusly, todays update is rather short as I'm planning on spending my day ingesting the ruleset and plan on coming back with my thoughts on it post haste!

So until next time,
Download these hot little piggies (yes the "free" and "online" links are different. one is to the rules, the other to the cards used for the game!)

Rogue Trooper?

Kickstarter

We-he-he-hellllll Look at this. Something awesome this way (potentially) comes. The peeps over at Tabletop Fix via a user on the Reaper minis message boards have founds a doozy of a Kickstarter to throwdown behind. The problem is, It's just a draft.. meaning it might not become a "thing". But let us all hope. (Edit: Since writing this a week ago, the Kickstarter has gone LIVE!)
Being a big Post-Apocalyptic fan as well as a AD 2000 fan, this type of thing really turns my crank.
As I said, Let us all hope.

well HMMMMMmmmmm....

Awesome Things

Naturally, I spend a LOT of time perusing the interwebs, and every once in a while I stumble upon some article or another that goes on at length about how "GW's Prices are too high blah blah blah blah" and the article in question never goes into depths beyond the writers personal bias/vendetta/kanly against GW's pricing.
To this end, even more rarely I come across an article that goes that extra half-mile and goes deep into the details about such a gripe as well as comparing what's what in different areas in a thoughtful and cohesive measure.

THIS is one of those articles:

Suffice to say it's an interesting article and I encourage you all to read it and, most importantly, to DISCUSS the subject matter (no matter which side of the yes/no line you are on).

Building little Chairs by RubbishInRubbishOut

Awesome Things

So I was cruising about youTube looking up useful terrain doohickies when I stumbled upon the video above by RubbishInRubbishOut. It's so simple... and yet never in a million jillion years would I EVER have thought of doing this.

Just one more example that we live in the golden age of gaming.

Bugs... BUGS!!!

Awesome Things

I am a huge fan of Space Hulk. I am also a huge fan of awesome terrain and close quarters battle in miniature games. Some game systems (Infinity, Necromunda and Space hulk... duh!) work awesome in this style of game and I'm always in awe of those in the hobby that construct their own 3d representations of such awesome terrain. Indeed this type of terrain also fits right into my main requirement for buying terrain.... Multi-use. If I can' use it for more than one game system, it's of no use to me at all.

Enter Bug Hunt Corridors from Fantasy Arc. These lovely people have thrown down with laser cut buildable corridor terrain which works wonders for Space Hulk, Necromunda, Infinity and Sedition wars (battle for alabaster... Another Kick starter I supported and will have in my grubby little pig paws soon.... oh yes....), and for Roleplaying games such as Cyberpunk, Mutant Chronicles, or any sci-fi style games (star wars? why not??!!). This simple and most excellent set covers all of these loves for me. Check them out and give them a bit of support!

Google + hangouts

Awesome Things

Eureka!
So, As I've pointed out a few times, I currently live rather far away from the majority of my friends due to an unfortunate incident involving injury and hospital time. Thus, whilst I've been in my medical exile over the last year, I have been forced to go from  roleplaying with the chums once or twice a week, to once or twice every few months (if I'm lucky) each time I'm able to make it back onto the mainland to visit. As of last night, this has changed, as I have finally managed to get some of my friends together (along with some new ones) and started playing online. This has been made possible Via Google + Hangouts.

I know some of you out there are saying "well no shit Sherlock, online gaming has been a thing for a while", to which I reply, "I know". But I like to cover all my bases before I start something big like this and, having done my due diligence, I have discovered it works quite well. With Google + Hangouts one can host a VIDEO chatroom with up to 10 people total, screenshare notes and maps, and generally get up to much of the shenanigans that one can whilst in person without all that bother of actually arranging a place to play. With the addition of a great app called Scoot and Doodle, a little paint program that all can access and edit which works a treat for encounter mapping (and is saveable as well as shareable to facebook for others to laugh about), almost all the tools you need for online pen and paper gaming is available in one neat little package.

As an interesting aside, there is a group working on a G+ hangouts dice roller app, which is AWESOME, as the honour system for individual dice rolling isn't really an option for some groups.

So, how did it go?
Smashingly!

Once the group settled in, and my brother stopped farting around with hats and meme face replacers.... The game went wonderfully, with the action starting off almost instantly, and a daring prison escape against all odds (Seriously, they rolled crap and got almost wiped out by falling masonry!) the group made it to land and can now set about putting the punk into Cyberpunk!

Good times.

So, for those who are looking into various SIMPLE (*cough cough* I'm looking at you Roll20*cough cough*) programs for running pen and paper games online, I give a very thankful and huge thumbsup to Google + Hangouts.

Until next time,
Pirate hats and sound effects do not, a serious game make.

The little blue book

Behind the Screen

This is my Sneaky face
Welcome back all, to another round of Behind the Screen. Today I want to talk about a neat little concept I've recently been introduced to called 'the Blue Book'.
Now I could go on at length about the subject, but as many others already have, I'll just take the most condensed and succinct explanation I have found to date, and steal it to place here in the blog.
BEHOLD!

Don't be a fool. Use your tools!

Thursday Theories

I HAVE THE POWER... to tell you about this stuff...

Every GM has those days when they need a little inspiration or help, a little "something something" to make the tasks easier. The following are just some of my favorite tools to help out.

The Grand List of Console Role Playing Game Cliches:
This absolutely wonderful list covers everything and more when it comes to cliches in role playing, whether it's next level bad guys coming back for round two (in a more powerful form!) or an explanation as to why that shop keeper sells the same things as every other shop keeper everywhere else but when you needed it, this list has it.

The Donjon:
This handy-dandy little page allows you to instantly create a dungeon or cavern complex for almost any gaming system out there that you could need it for... including encounters!
Super useful and incredibly easy to use, you'll never be without a last minute dungeon again.

The Obsidian Portal:
A fantastic site for groups to get organized and build a game together, this site allows the group involved to build a wiki of their gaming world, keep their characters up to date, AND keep a gazetter going for the gaming world. An awesome site to be sure.

The WotC Dice Roller:
Lets you roll dice for those times you forgot your dice bag at home.

Scriblink: The Online White Board:
This great little tool is an online white board (duh!) that multiple people can edit and mess around with... great for online gaming!

And those are just a few of the awesome tools available for people out thee on the Interwebz. Anything awesome you guys and dolls like to use? Let me know in the comments below!

Until next time,

Liquid Green Stuff: Pretty decent?

Review

So A little while back I picked up a bottle of GW's liquid greenstuff. They're magic "solves all finecast issues" solution. While I personally know nothing about that, as I have yet to purchase anything in finecast (I have many, Many, MANY metal models to get through before I purchase anything in finecast), I have found it has a few uses that I've been struggling to deal with for ages now.
