Die Waffenkammer PZ.III Ausf.M mit Shurtzen Review

Unboxing and Review

So I've read a few reviews of Die Waffenkammer tanks and figured I could use one for my tiny German force. I had figured I'd need to order from them online but lo-and-behold my FLGS actually carries a few of their product! And better yet, they had the tank I was looking for (as, alas, they didn't have the Pz.III or Pz.Iv in amongst their Bolt Action stock). It seems serendipitous so I threw down and picked one up!

Sedition Wars!!

Unboxing

AWWW YEAH!! HAPPY DANCE.
Today has been a very good day. Today, the start of my Sedition Wars Kickstarter items arrived (better late than never!). I also had an awesome steak for dinner, but that's beside the point. This has taken a bit to get to me, and I have been waiting with baited breath ever since the kickstarter ended. Alas none of the additions have made their way out yet, so I must make due without all of the awesome extras I paid for (Exo-suit, Carapace Armour Kara, The FIREFLY CREW, Riddick, that dude from Dead space, Ripley & Newt & Vasquez, That chick from Battlestar Galactica, et all~). Thus I shall show you all the magic that is the main boxed set along with a few of the initial shipment extras I recieved and let you all see what an impressive product this is.

Note: This is going to be a long post.

Droooooool.

AAAAAAnnyways, Join me now as I unbox this awesome new game!

Warning! PICTURE and WORD HEAVY!!

Paradisio Campaign

Reviews

I took the plunge
Not so long ago I got my filthy little pig-paws on my very own copy of the newest Infinity book Paradisio Campaign. Not gonna lie, It's all kinds of fantastic. The new units, though sparse in number for most factions (barring Aleph and Tohaa) are all solid. The introduction of a new faction, the earlier mentioned Tohaa were a surprise for the community when the book hit shelves, as Corvus Belli kept them all on the down low until their big reveal. From a casual skim of the new factions rules and units, they look all kinds of hardcore, being, in the main, the anti-combined army faction... which brings a certain slippery slope, rules wise, to the game which I'll mention in a moment.

New weapon types bring even more variety to the game (never a bad thing), and the new rules seem to move the game in a more platoon level direction. Specifically the HARIS skill:

Google + hangouts

Awesome Things

Eureka!
So, As I've pointed out a few times, I currently live rather far away from the majority of my friends due to an unfortunate incident involving injury and hospital time. Thus, whilst I've been in my medical exile over the last year, I have been forced to go from  roleplaying with the chums once or twice a week, to once or twice every few months (if I'm lucky) each time I'm able to make it back onto the mainland to visit. As of last night, this has changed, as I have finally managed to get some of my friends together (along with some new ones) and started playing online. This has been made possible Via Google + Hangouts.

I know some of you out there are saying "well no shit Sherlock, online gaming has been a thing for a while", to which I reply, "I know". But I like to cover all my bases before I start something big like this and, having done my due diligence, I have discovered it works quite well. With Google + Hangouts one can host a VIDEO chatroom with up to 10 people total, screenshare notes and maps, and generally get up to much of the shenanigans that one can whilst in person without all that bother of actually arranging a place to play. With the addition of a great app called Scoot and Doodle, a little paint program that all can access and edit which works a treat for encounter mapping (and is saveable as well as shareable to facebook for others to laugh about), almost all the tools you need for online pen and paper gaming is available in one neat little package.

As an interesting aside, there is a group working on a G+ hangouts dice roller app, which is AWESOME, as the honour system for individual dice rolling isn't really an option for some groups.

So, how did it go?
Smashingly!

Once the group settled in, and my brother stopped farting around with hats and meme face replacers.... The game went wonderfully, with the action starting off almost instantly, and a daring prison escape against all odds (Seriously, they rolled crap and got almost wiped out by falling masonry!) the group made it to land and can now set about putting the punk into Cyberpunk!

Good times.

So, for those who are looking into various SIMPLE (*cough cough* I'm looking at you Roll20*cough cough*) programs for running pen and paper games online, I give a very thankful and huge thumbsup to Google + Hangouts.

Until next time,
Pirate hats and sound effects do not, a serious game make.

Prime time: Krylon Dual Paint + Primer

Product Review

I did not use gloss....
So once again, I've been testing primers, this time, courtesy of Maqma (Was awesome to see you mate, now if only you could move back from ye olde Hong Kong....). Krylon Dual Paint + Primer matte finish.

Now, a word of warning, This stuff goes on thick. I had to draw back on my usual Omega-PRIME-job (copyright pending) as it was going on just too heavy. Due to this, make sure you shake the can hella good before you use it. Lotsa shake-a shake-a.

Liquid Green Stuff: Pretty decent?

Review

So A little while back I picked up a bottle of GW's liquid greenstuff. They're magic "solves all finecast issues" solution. While I personally know nothing about that, as I have yet to purchase anything in finecast (I have many, Many, MANY metal models to get through before I purchase anything in finecast), I have found it has a few uses that I've been struggling to deal with for ages now.

Horus Heresy: Betrayal a light review

Review

I'm baaaaack!

Happy days! I got my filthy little pig-hands on a copy of that most rare of tomes... The Horus Heresy: Betrayal book.
It is truly a gorgeous book.
Worth $117 CAD?
No.
I say this with a caveat, however. For the moderately hardcore and/or fluff-lord gamers, this book is a gold mine and worth every penny. I regret NOTHING about my expenditure on this book. It's beautiful. It's well laid out. The full colour illustrations and art we're started to get used to in the Imperial Armour books has been brought to a new level in this masterpiece. BUT... The leather cover, the embossed edging, the EFFORT put into this book... is lost on, what is supposed to be, a gaming book. This book is meant to be dumped in a bag, dragged out all the time to show your friends, to be leafed through by grubby, cheeto-sodden fingers... And anyone who owns this beautiful book, will have a shit-fit if it gets dusty, let alone carting it around for gaming purposes. This books lovely finish is a detriment to its use, and I for one will be mortified the moment someone mistreats it.
Which we all know will happen as soon as we let some unworthy's hands sully its filigreed pages.

Personally, I believe Forge World needs to release this book as a standard hardcover at it's usual price range ($65-$75 CAD). This would open the book up to more people (the price right now is mind bogglingly huge... akin to university textbooks) and is a real buy-stopper for newbies and veterans alike. It's aimed purely at the hardcore crowd, which, while I can understand the  selling power of exclusivity, is a loss to overall sales for the company. Plus, as we all know, the same people who bought this super deluxe edition, will buy a gaming copy as well.

GIVE ME A STANDARD HARDCOVER TO TAKE WITH ME WHILE GAMING.

/Rant
With that all said, I'll get on to the actual review.

Codex Chaos Space Marines Part 3: Building Character

Codex Reviews and Impressions

I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok...

Welcome back all, to the final part of Roll of the Dice's Codex review for Codex Chaos Marines. In the this last article I want to cover the Special Characters From the book and how they'll effect the armies we see on the tabletop. Now enough jawing, let's get to it!

Codex Chaos Space Marines part 2: Pro-Choice

Codex Reviews and Impressions

Welcome back all, to the Roll of the Dice Codex review for Codex Chaos Marines part 2. In the last article I went over many of the non-unit specific entries in the codex, such as Wargear, Army Special Rules, Warlord Traits and the like. This time around I want to discuss the actual units in the codex, the winners and losers of the new book, and what I think we're going to be seeing a lot of in the coming future. So lets get started!

Codex Chaos Space Marines Part 1: Options options options

Codex Reviews and Impressions

Well it seems I have managed to get my grubby pig hands on a copy of the 6th Edition Chaos Codex, and I must say, I'm rather impressed! It is definitely leaps and bounds better than that last edition codex/abortion and fixes many (not all) of the problems inherent with that codex
*cough cough* Icons = marks and therefor losing Icons meant units losing marks... STUPID! *cough cough*.

This picture should be in the dictionary under BADASS. or Sir.

Let's get on to the initial thoughts shall we?

6th Edition 40k vs. Infinity

Hobbyside Thunderdome

WHO RULES BARTER TOWN??! WHO RULES???!!!
MASTA BLASTA!!!!

All-right kiddies. I've got a little something something for you all to mull over. A comparative review of GW's 6th edition Warhammer 40k vs. Corvus Belli's Infinity rulebooks. That's right! vs. BOTH the Human Spheres and Core rulebook. Why you ask? Because between the 2 books they only come out to 10 pages (roughly 408 pgs.) short of the GW behemoth (418pgs.).
SO HERE WE GO!!!

In the Grimdark corner, all the way from England, we have the reigning Champion...
WARHAMMER 40,000 6th EDITION RULEBOOK!

And the Challengers, Hailing from Spain, In the Neon Glow of the future we have the tag team....
INFINITY CORE AND HUMAN SPHERES!!!

Alright. For those who don't know the rules, here they are:

  1. Price is a factor, and since the match-up came out of my (And Richards...) wallets, It'll be reviewed in CANADIAN DOLLARS (CAD).
  2. Paper quality, binding quality and image quality all play a factor.
  3. Kill-a-man-ability is important as this is a fight and being able to lay the opponent out is important.
  4. Frills, such as poncy ribbons don't count. Seriously... Most people use the friggin receipt as a book mark, and since I'm a huge reader I have my own fancy (leather!) bookmark. Cause I'm a nerd... And seriously If the Ribbon cost GW $25 to add, then they are morons.
  5. Let's keep the fight clean. No eye gouges, bag shots or dirty language. Commenters do what you will.

NOW You know the rules... so LET'S GET IT ON!
FIGHT!

White Dwarf: All better now?

Product Review

Well it Appears Games Workshop has realized (finally) that White Dwarf has been a sinking ship for the last few years and have taken action to spiff it up and relaunch it. Let's have a look inside and see how it worked out shall we?

Primer Directive: Krylon Camoflage Ultra-Flat

Product Review

So recently  I ran out of primer. This is, for anyone, quite a problem if you are any type of mini-painter, but for yours truly, it's a CATASTROPHE! You see, I don't live near civilization per say. I live 30 mins drive from the nearest town and over an hours drive (1hr 12 mins to be exact) from the nearest hobby store (which it actually barely qualifies as... God I miss my old store), so running out of anything is a bit of an issue. In addition to that, I'm not legally able to drive (it's a long story.... Also part of the reason I live where I do. Short form: bad injury = No driving), so I must rely on the kindness of others to get stuff for me. Lastly, Ordering primer online is a pain because it takes a while to get to me.. and with the nice weather we've been enjoying here lately, I can't wait on snail-mail and risk loosing prime-priming-time.
SO! due to all of this, it's a bit of a problem when I run out of my beloved, far too expensive GW White primer. This has forced me to look for alternate products, preferably at a lower price point. Enter Krylon Fusion Camouflage Ultra-Flat spray primer.
THE CHALLENGER!

Scrub-a-Dub-Dub Part 2: The Cleanening

Tutorial Tuesday

Welcome back for part 2 of the Simple-Green review slash how to (which is, in no way, a cheap attempt to take a sub-par article and split it into two articles so i can be lazy this afternoon... no... not at all...)!

When last we met our intrepid Chemi-man he had just given his models the sweet sweet minty green dunk!
It's so.... green.....

Scrub-a-dub-dub Part 1: THE SECRET OF THE OOZE

Tutorial Tuesday

We've all got one of those miniatures. You know the ones I'm talking about. That model you painted umpteen years ago while half blind from your 9th double rum and coke after painting all the way through all of the Lord of the Rings extended Editions (Natch!). That model(s) you look at now and actually hope they'll burst into flames so no-one can see your secret shame.
Or maybe that's just me.... and how most of my Saturday nights go....
Anyways, here's my guide to absolving you of your painting sins and washing away those unsightly paint jobs.
Until the next one...

The Answer to your failures. $15.00 from Canadian Tire... or whatever your DIY store is.

My response to 6th Edition

Saturday Potpourri

Some people have asked me how I feel about the new edition. 5 words:
I CAN THROW GRENADES AGAIN.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Ok, so maybe that's technically 6 words... but still.... I've been complaining about not being able to throw grenades since 2nd edition went the way of the dodo. Everyone who has ever met me while playing 40k has heard my rant. Jervis Johnson, Rick Priestly, Graham McNeill and even Uve Boll (wacky night) have all heard me bitch about it (after parties are fun!). It's a stupid little point, but it is still a major point of contention for me.

Sooooooooo I'm excited for a new edition, but will reserve my final judgement until after I've played a few games. Til then I'm optimistic and am back to painting 40k models for the first time in 3 years.
 Speaking of which....

TEST MODEL!

Till next time,
Keep the paint out of your ferrule.
